Pricing
How much does electrical repair cost in San Antonio TX?
Electrical repair costs in San Antonio TX vary by job type and complexity. These ranges give you a realistic starting point — we’ll provide an exact written quote before any work begins.
How much does emergency electrical repair cost in San Antonio TX?
Cost comes down to the repair and the parts it needs, and every site is different. You get an upfront price before any work starts, so there are no surprise bills.
How much does an electrician cost in San Antonio TX?
Good Times Electric charges a $159 service call, which covers diagnosing the fault or inspecting the installation. It is waived when you go ahead with work that comes to more than $159. All work is flat-rate (not hourly, and not plus materials), so you approve the full cost before any work begins. Panel upgrades, EV charger installation, and major wiring projects are quoted upfront. Call (210) 760-6407 for a free phone estimate on your specific project.
Is the $159 service call waived if I go ahead with the work?
Yes, with one qualification. The $159 covers the service call itself: diagnosing the fault or inspecting the installation. If you go ahead with the repair or installation, the $159 is waived. The exception is a small job: if the work comes to less than $159, the $159 service charge applies regardless, because it is our minimum for sending a licensed electrician out to you. We tell you which applies before any work begins.
Panel Replacement & Upgrades
How much does an electrical panel replacement cost in San Antonio?
Electrical panel replacement cost in San Antonio depends on panel size, service amperage, permit fees, and whether a utility disconnect is required. We provide flat-rate quotes — call (210) 760-6407 for a free estimate specific to your home.
Do I need a permit for a panel replacement in San Antonio?
Yes. All electrical panel replacements in San Antonio require a permit from the City of San Antonio Development Services Department. Good Times Electric handles the entire permit process — you don’t need to do anything. The job includes permit, inspection, and sign-off.
How long does a panel replacement take?
Most panel replacements take 4–8 hours. Your power will be off during the replacement (usually 2–4 hours). We coordinate with CPS Energy for the utility disconnect and reconnect so the process is as fast as possible.
Will a panel replacement increase my home’s value?
Yes. A code-compliant, permitted 200-amp panel is a positive line item in a home inspection report. It also opens the door for EV charger installation, which is increasingly valued by buyers in San Antonio. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels warrant careful evaluation because of documented performance concerns. They do come up in sale negotiations.
Can you replace a panel same day?
In most cases, yes. We carry common 200-amp panels in stock. Call (210) 760-6407 — if we can schedule a morning appointment, most replacements are complete by evening with the city inspection scheduled within 1–2 business days.
Do you service Canyon Lake, Cibolo, Boerne for panel replacements?
Yes. Good Times Electric serves all of San Antonio and the surrounding area including Canyon Lake, Cibolo, Boerne, New Braunfels, Schertz, Seguin, Stone Oak, Helotes, Universal City, Converse, and more. Panel replacements are available throughout our full service area.
What are the signs I need an electrical service upgrade?
Three things, roughly in the order we see them. Physical damage: a tree came down on the service, or rust and water are getting into the equipment. No space left to add what you want. Or not enough amperage: an older 100 amp service being asked to carry another 40 to 50 amps for something like an EV charger.
Does having a 100 amp service mean I need to upgrade to 200 amps?
Not necessarily. If the service is damaged and you are not adding anything, we can repair it and go back with 100 amps. What decides it is a load calculation on the house and whether you plan to add load. A service that has run a house fine for 20 or 30 years can carry on doing so.
My electrical panel is full. Do I need a bigger service?
Not automatically. A full panel and a full service are two different problems. A full panel is out of breaker spaces; a full service is out of capacity. If a whole-home load calculation shows you are still inside your existing service, you can fit a larger panel and keep the service you already have.
Does a kitchen remodel require an electrical service upgrade in San Antonio?
Not by itself. A remodel means the work you are doing has to meet current code, including the amendments San Antonio makes to the national code. That is what the permit and inspection are for. Whether the service itself has to get bigger is a separate question, answered by a load calculation. If you are not opening walls or moving circuits, you are not obliged to bring an existing installation up to current code.
How do you decide whether I need a service upgrade or just a repair?
We come out for a free estimate, look at the service you have, go over what you are trying to do, and run a load calculation on the house. That is what separates an upgrade from a repair. The age of the equipment counts too: a 30 year old panel is at the end of its service life.
What happens if I keep adding circuits to a service that is too small?
Usually breakers start tripping, which is the system doing its job. On older equipment without overcurrent protection in the right place, the failure can move upstream to the main feeders. Current rules also call for an outdoor emergency disconnect on one- and two-family homes so first responders can cut power without going inside, but that applies to new and replacement equipment; older installations are not retroactively required to have one.
